The Power of Not Thinking

Thinking has a profound effect. So does not thinking.

A mind obsessed with yesterday’s travesties, today’s aches and pains, and tomorrow’s dark clouds, creates problems where none exist.

It transforms daydreams into realities, molehills into monstrosities, innocent creatures into venomous snakes. All the more so when such words pass the lips into the tangible world we all share.

That is why simply turning your back to those thoughts is such a powerful form of healing—for every sort of illness. Distract your mind to good thoughts, productive thoughts, thoughts of confidence in the One Who Made You, and especially thoughts of Torah.

Heal your mind and heal your soul. You will heal your body as well.

Being and Not Being

He made His world of contradictions, opposites that combine as one.

Being and not being,
infinity and finitude,
light and darkness,
form and matter,
quantity and quality,
giving and withholding.

At their nexus, a world is formed: Neither can exist without the other, all function together as a single whole.

They are mere modalities—He Himself is none of them. He mixes them and matches them at whim.

Paradox is our window to the Unknowable.

T.Freeman

Get Real

Why is God not real to you? Because your god is not real.

You begin with “Here I am, standing in this world,” and then you append, “and God is watching down on me.”

If you begin with the premise of your own reality, what room is there left for His?

God Is—and you and your world are a glimmer of His presence.

Transformation

When light pushes away the darkness,
eventually another darkness shall come.

When the darkness itself is transformed into light,
it is a light that no darkness can oppose.

Many people, without realizing, end up with two gods

Many people, without realizing, end up with two gods:
One god is an impersonal, all-encompassing, transcendent force.
But then, at times of trouble, they cry out to another, personal god, with whom they have an intimate relationship.
Our faith is all about knowing that these two are one. The same God who is beyond all things, He is the same one who hears your cries and counts your tears. The same God who is the force behind all existence and transcends even that, He is the same God who cares about what is cooking in your kitchen and how you treat your fellow human being.
God cannot be defined, even as transcendent. He is beyond all things and within them at once.
T. Freeman

No man can say he is free today because yesterday he was granted freedom.

No man can say he is free today because yesterday he was granted freedom.
Freedom is a source of endless energy. Freedom is the power behind this entire universe. Freedom is the force that brings existence out of the void.
You are free when you take part in that endlessness. When you never stand still. When you are forever escaping the confines of today to create a freer tomorrow.

A smile

"A smile is in itself a greeting, a sign of acknowledgement we
give to those we meet even before we say hello to them, so it is
important to be aware of what our smile expresses. Of course, it
is not a matter of putting on a false smile that we’ve been
practising in the mirror. Our smile should come naturally from
within and express kindness, gentleness and understanding.
If you are able to reach into the depths of your being and seek
silence and light, your inner sculptors will know which nerves
and muscles to tighten or relax. You can trust them. Wanting to
manufacture your own smile is only going to deform your features.
So work with love, hope and faith, and trust in the inspiration
of your inner sculptors."

Inner Anxiety

Often, anxiety takes root because a person’s external character is incompatible with his or her inner self. The anxiety may dwell upon other issues and obsessions—but none of these are the true underlying cause.

Most souls can tolerate a few inconsistencies. But others are sensitive to every nuance. As soon as some aspect of their lifestyle is not attuned to the purity of the essential self, the entire person is thrown off balance.

T. Freeman

The aura is our spiritual skin.

"The aura is our spiritual skin. And it is as desirable for the
spiritual skin surrounding us to be wide and strong as it is for
our physical skin to be soft and fine.
There are people who never stop complaining about the way others
look at them, speak to them and treat them. They are so sensitive
you would think they were covered in wounds. This shows that
their aura is very thin. Why is this? Because they do not have
much love. Whereas, you can say what you like to those people who
have a very wide aura, and it doesn’t bother them or offend them,
for they have a great deal of love. So, if you are so very
sensitive to criticism, don’t try making excuses. It is simply
that you do not have enough love to seal the breaches, to build
thick walls and prevent negative currents from coming in through
your aura."

Initially, the idea of serving others is never an attractive one for many people

"Initially, the idea of serving others is never an attractive one
for many people; it is even humiliating, and that is because they
do not know what true service is. Otherwise, why would Jesus have
said in the Gospels, ‘The greatest among you must become like one
who serves’? Those who are great never find it demeaning to be at
the service of others, because their greatness is of the spirit.
They know that nothing, no task, will make them lose their
nobility, their true greatness.
Jesus was great, because he knew how to be infinitely small. The
man who said, ‘I am the truth’ never asked anyone to bow down to
serve him; on the contrary, he made himself a humble servant to
all. Why? Because truth is charged with immeasurable power. So it
has to be carefully wrapped for others to receive it and
assimilate it without it causing any damage. The power bestowed
by truth must also be expressed through humility, love and
kindness."

Owning Wisdom

You can live in a palace filled with treasures and still be poor. To be wealthy, you must own the things you have.

So, too, with poverty of the mind: You may have all the knowledge and brilliant ideas in the world, but you are still poor until they have become part of you.

La puissance de la pensée !

The two principles of light and dark are forever at war in the world.

"The two principles of light and dark are forever at war in the
world. If you take sides with darkness, light will attack you,
and if you take sides with light you will be attacked by
darkness. You should know this and be ready to defend yourself.
But you will have to be careful with this too, because it’s not a
question of defending yourself any way you can; the only weapons
you should use are those of light. Yes, for if you fight back
using the means of darkness – hate, cruelty and violence – you
will go crashing down into regions where these hostile forces
confront each other and tear each other apart, and you will
experience darkness and weakness.
Bear this in mind: these enemies are a temptation presented by
the invisible world. To get the better of them, we tend to fight
back using the same methods they use. But enemies can also be a
blessing, if we seek to respond with the higher weapon, light."

Forgetting to Learn

Learning is not the mere acquisition of knowledge and more knowledge. Learning is a process of making quantum leaps beyond the subjective self. No matter how high a summit you may reach, there is always another peak above.

But you can only reach that peak once you realize you are still in the valley.

Getting Along

When we can’t get along with someone, we like to blame it on that person’s faults: Stupidity, incompetence, outrageous actions, aggression or some other evil.

The real reason is none of these. It is that the world is broken, and we are the shattered fragments.

And all that stops us from coming back together is that we each imagine ourselves to be whole.

Gradual Truth

In life, you don't get all the answers at once.

First you must absorb and live with one simple truth. Then later you must find another truth --one that may seem to conflict with and negate all you previously learned. Then, from that confusion, emerges a higher truth --the inner light behind all you had learned before.

A cross, in outline, is merely the meeting point of a vertical line with a horizontal line.

"A cross, in outline, is merely the meeting point of a vertical
line with a horizontal line. These two lines represent two
opposing forces and directions, which meet to achieve the union
of the two principles – the masculine (the vertical line) and the
feminine (the horizontal line). The cross is an expression of the
union of the two principles. To understand the cross, therefore,
means knowing how to put the masculine and the feminine, the
positive and the negative, into action.
You will say, ‘But how can the two principles be put into
action? And is it that important?’ Yes, as important as knowing
how to use fire and water, which also represent the two
principles, the masculine being fire, the feminine water. Imagine
if you didn’t know – how many possibilities you would be deprived
of! Think of everything you are able to do because of knowing how
to use water and fire. It is the union of the two principles that
creates movement. And consider the wheel… What is a wheel? A
cross in motion."

The World as I see it - An essay by Albert Einstein

"How strange is the lot of us mortals! Each of us is here for a brief sojourn; for what purpose he knows not, though he sometimes thinks he senses it. But without deeper reflection one knows from daily life that one exists for other people -- first of all for those upon whose smiles and well-being our own happiness is wholly dependent, and then for the many, unknown to us, to whose destinies we are bound by the ties of sympathy. A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life are based on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving...
"I have never looked upon ease and happiness as ends in themselves -- this critical basis I call the ideal of a pigsty. The ideals that have lighted my way, and time after time have given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been Kindness, Beauty, and Truth. Without the sense of kinship with men of like mind, without the occupation with the objective world, the eternally unattainable in the field of art and scientific endeavors, life would have seemed empty to me. The trite objects of human efforts -- possessions, outward success, luxury -- have always seemed to me contemptible.

"My passionate sense of social justice and social responsibility has always contrasted oddly with my pronounced lack of need for direct contact with other human beings and human communities. I am truly a 'lone traveler' and have never belonged to my country, my home, my friends, or even my immediate family, with my whole heart; in the face of all these ties, I have never lost a sense of distance and a need for solitude..."
"My political ideal is democracy. Let every man be respected as an individual and no man idolized. It is an irony of fate that I myself have been the recipient of excessive admiration and reverence from my fellow-beings, through no fault, and no merit, of my own. The cause of this may well be the desire, unattainable for many, to understand the few ideas to which I have with my feeble powers attained through ceaseless struggle. I am quite aware that for any organization to reach its goals, one man must do the thinking and directing and generally bear the responsibility. But the led must not be coerced, they must be able to choose their leader. In my opinion, an autocratic system of coercion soon degenerates; force attracts men of low morality... The really valuable thing in the pageant of human life seems to me not the political state, but the creative, sentient individual, the personality; it alone creates the noble and the sublime, while the herd as such remains dull in thought and dull in feeling.
"This topic brings me to that worst outcrop of herd life, the military system, which I abhor... This plague-spot of civilization ought to be abolished with all possible speed. Heroism on command, senseless violence, and all the loathsome nonsense that goes by the name of patriotism -- how passionately I hate them!
"The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of true art and true science. Whoever does not know it and can no longer wonder, no longer marvel, is as good as dead, and his eyes are dimmed. It was the experience of mystery -- even if mixed with fear -- that engendered religion. A knowledge of the existence of something we cannot penetrate, our perceptions of the profoundest reason and the most radiant beauty, which only in their most primitive forms are accessible to our minds: it is this knowledge and this emotion that constitute true religiosity. In this sense, and only this sense, I am a deeply religious man... I am satisfied with the mystery of life's eternity and with a knowledge, a sense, of the marvelous structure of existence -- as well as the humble attempt to understand even a tiny portion of the Reason that manifests itself in nature."

"If your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light".

"Just as we possess sense organs, enabling us to make contact with
the physical world, so too we possess subtle organs and centres,
enabling us to make contact with the spiritual world. These
centres, which have different names depending on the tradition,
are like antennae connecting us to heavenly entities.
When Jesus said, ‘If your eye is healthy, your whole body will
be full of light’, he was referring to one of these centres. From
the point of view of physiology, it is absurd to say that the
state of the body depends on the state of the eyes, and anyway
Jesus was speaking not of our eyes but of one eye. This eye, upon
which the whole body depends, is the centre through which heaven
touches the earth within us. And this eye not only sees but can
also understand, feel and even act, for it contains all the other
organs’ possibilities in potential."

The Mandate of Darkness

As impossible as it sounds, as absurd as it may seem: The mandate of darkness is to become light; the mandate of a busy, messy world is to find oneness.

We have proof: for the greater the darkness becomes, the greater the confusion of life, the deeper our souls reach inward to discover their own light.

How could it be that darkness leads us to find a deeper light? That confusion leads us to find a deeper truth?

Only because the very act of existence is set to know its own author. That is the cosmic drama, its theme and its plot: That otherness should come to know oneness.

And we are the players in that drama.

Getting to Godliness

Deep in meditation, quarrying the strata of the secret wisdom, stripping away layer beneath layer of the hardened sediment draped over truth, the mind’s eye attains perception of the light.

That is not yet Godliness.

Immersed in received knowledge of the higher realms, secluded from the confusion of humankind and earthly pleasures, there comes a day the prophet hears with his ears the voice that brings all into being; he sees with his eyes the splendor of that light.

That is not yet Godliness.

Arriving in the ancient Temple of Solomon, each person, great or small, saw the light with such clarity that all sense of being was lost, nothing existed other than the singularity of the Infinite Light that shone openly in that place.

Yet, still, that is not yet Godliness.

In a time to come, when the fruits of all our labor will blossom and the world will attain its state for which it was created, when "I will pour out My spirit upon all flesh and your sons and daughters shall prophecy," then every small child will see more than the greatest prophet has ever seen, "and all flesh shall see"—the physical eye will perceive an unbounded divine light that has never before been revealed, the very stones of the earth will scream out, "There is nothing else but He!" in every corner of the world, even within its inert matter, "for all the earth shall be filled with the knowing of God, as waters fill the ocean basin."

There will be a world, and the world will know that it is nothing but a manifestation of the Infinite Light.

That will be Godliness.

T. Freeman

Reinterpreting the Stone

How could a human ego know it is nothing but a figment of a Supernal Mind, and yet remain a human being?

How could a finite, physical eye perceive infinite, Godly light and yet remain an eye?

How could a stone scream out that there is nothing else but God and yet remain a stone?

It must be that the ego is not the ego we imagine it to be; that the physical is not the physicality we imagine it to be; that existence is not the absoluteness of being we assume when we speak of existence.

It must be that the true reality of all these things is a deeper meaning, the purpose for which they emerged into being; that the underlying condition that allows anything the privilege of existence is to know the divine.

The ego, the eye, the very physicality of the world—we have misinterpreted all of them. They are all nothing but instruments by which God’s oneness can be known.

Anything you do solely for your personal satisfaction cannot be lasting.

"Anything you do solely for your personal satisfaction cannot be
lasting. You may get what you want, but it will eventually
rebound on you. You think you are grasping it securely, and then
it escapes. You thought it was gold, and now it has turned to
lead. Cosmic Intelligence wants to teach humans and so does not
allow them to succeed in their selfish endeavours. So why, you
will say, does it allow them a modicum of success if they are
soon to lose what they have acquired? Because it wants them to
really ponder the lesson and understand what is worth seeking,
what is worth working at.
And what is worth working at is the idea of universal
brotherhood. If you love this idea, if you are faithful to it and
nourish it and focus all your willpower on achieving it, being
true gold it will fulfil your heart and soul forever."

Heaven and hell are two forms of life found within ourselves.

"Before being regions of the invisible world as described by
religion, heaven and hell are two forms of life found within
ourselves. The life of hell is dark, murky; symbolically, it is
the life of the digestive tract, the stomach and the sexual
organs. The life of heaven is subtle, pure, filled with light;
symbolically, it is the life of the lungs, the heart and the
brain.
The heaven and hell within us are separated by the diaphragm,
but the structure of our body tells us they must work together.
Only, we should always ensure that the upper part controls the
lower, that our consciousness sets up home in the upper part.
Then hell will provide the materials, the brute force, which
heaven will command and make prolific. So, strive to live in your
heaven, and from there learn to command the forces of your hell.

The story goes:

"The story goes that an elderly woman was so afraid of burglars
she decided to put a certain sum of money aside in case they
visited: that way she was bound not to be mistreated. Of course,
eventually a burglar came, and the woman said, ‘Ah! There you
are! I’ve been waiting for you. I have something ready for you…’
Astounded by the welcome, the burglar went away very happy, as
you can imagine. As for her, she did not know that by expecting a
burglar she had attracted one.
There are not many people, you will be thinking, who have the
bizarre idea of putting money aside in case of a burglary. Yes,
no doubt, but on the other hand many save for a rainy day. And
that comes down to the same thing, for they are summoning the
rainy days. This is magic – unconsciously they are doing a kind
of black magic. So, never say you are saving for a rainy day,
because you are attracting it. Save for a sunny day instead. This
way, when the princess appears, you will have the money to marry
her. Obviously, the princess is symbolic. The princess coming
represents all the wonderful opportunities that can present
themselves in life. It is useful to have money to take advantage
of these opportunities."

Anesthetized

God saw the fire and the ice, the storm and the narrow straits that plague our final journey, and He knew that no soul could bear such pain.

So He anesthetized our souls. Our love and fear, our sensitivity to anything Godly—all that was put to sleep. Only the very core, our essential connection to Above, was left intact.

There is a positive side to this frozen state: The deepest wonders are open to us. Wonders that souls of an earlier generation would never have been able to approach out of awe and inspiration.

At the core of the wisdom of Torah lies an unbearable fire. We can walk through it now, without even knowing its heat.

‘Be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.’

"The busyness of the bee and the ant, the piercing gaze of the
eagle, the regal demeanour of the lion, the patience of the ox,
the strength and memory of the elephant, the loyalty of the dog –
the list of qualities that animals have come to symbolize could
go on and on.
Animals are God’s creatures just as humans are and also have
things to teach us, and it is not without reason that some
animals have been elevated to the rank of divinities in certain
religions. Animals do possess particular characteristics,
character traits, which can find an echo in humans, awakening
beneficial qualities in them. And Jesus, who said, ‘Be perfect as
your heavenly Father is perfect’ also said, ‘Be wise as serpents
and innocent as doves.’ "

The opinions, beliefs and viewpoints that parents endeavour to pass on to their children are not always the best

"The opinions, beliefs and viewpoints that parents endeavour to
pass on to their children are not always the best, I agree. But
when children criticize their parents and behave in a harsh and
insolent manner, is that a good attitude to have? No, it isn’t.
Even if they find out one day that they cannot entirely trust
their parents, it does not give them the right to show contempt.
If they do not follow their parents’ example or continue to
accept their philosophy, that is their right, but they must not
reject them.
And this rule also holds outside the family. Just because your
opinion is different from someone else’s does not give you the
right to reject them – on the contrary. If they are wrong in your
eyes, it is an added reason for being kind and understanding
towards them. But within the family, this rule is a must: even if
they disagree with their parents, children should never stop
respecting and loving them."

Human beings should be studied when they are still connected to the cosmic Tree,

"You have just picked a fruit… If you had the equipment for
observing it, you would see it is different from how it was on
the tree, when all the life force coursed through it and it
received sap, to which the whole universe contributed its work.
As soon as you pick it, you cut it off from the cosmic currents.
It is the same with human beings: they should be studied when
they are still connected to the cosmic Tree, whose fruit they
are, because then they are alive, rich and radiant. This is why
science cannot know them – it wants to study humans when they
have been cut or have fallen from the tree of life; it is merely
studying their corpse. You will say, ‘Yes, but at least then you
can dissect them to see what they are made of. Whereas when they
are alive, you can’t.’ Well, precisely; this is proof that you
have to find other ways of studying humans without cutting them
up, so you can study them live and whole. And there are ways!
Once you have them, you will discover all the subtle currents
circulating in humans and connecting them to the whole of the
universe."

A Time of Silence - A parable:

A father answers the questions of his child and they are happy together, in joyful dialogue.

Then the child asks a question, and the father must think deeply -not just for the answer, but to reach to the essence of this answer so he may bring it to the world of his child. For a long while, the father is quiet.

And so, the child becomes anxious and begins to cry. "Father, where are you? Why do you no longer talk to me? Why have you deserted me for your own thoughts?"
And then the father begins to speak, but this time it is the deepest core of his mind that flows into the mind and heart of the child. Such a flow that with this the child, too, may become a father.

The child is us. The time of silence is now.

When the spirit of Man is dark, when the flow gates of Above seem all but sealed, prepare for liberation.

The Journey Home

Afterlife is a very rational, natural consequence of the order of things. After all, nothing is ever lost --even the body only transforms into earth. But nothing is lost.

The person you are is also never lost. It only returns to its source.

If your soul became attached to the material world during its stay here, then it must painfully rip itself away to make the journey back. But if it was only a traveler, connected to its source all along, then its ride home is heavenly.

Mandate Unmasked

As impossible as it sounds, as absurd as it may seem: The mandate of darkness is to become light; the mandate of a busy, messy world is to find oneness.

We have proof: for the greater the darkness becomes and the greater the confusion of life, the deeper our souls reach inward to discover their own essence-core.

How could it be that darkness leads us to find a deeper light? That confusion leads us to find a deeper truth?

Only because the very act of existence was set from its beginning to know its own Author.

As it says, "In the beginning…God said, ‘It shall become light!’"
