Stop Groping

You can blunder around in the dark, carefully avoiding every pit. You can grope through the murky haze for the exit, stumbling and falling in the mud, then struggling back to your feet to try again.

Or you can turn on the light. There is a switch to the inner light buried without a doubt inside your heart. Even if it is ever so small, that is not important. Even a tiny flame can push away the darkness of an enormous cavern.

Returning Light

In creating the whole of existence, God made forces that reveal Him and forces that oppose Him --He made light and He made darkness. One who does good brings in more light. One who fails, feeds the darkness.

But the one who fails and then returns transcends that entire scheme. He reaches out directly to the Essential Creator. Beyond darkness and light.

And so, his darkness becomes light.

The Oppressive Neighbor

No one is a greater tyrant than your friendly neighbor. Or fellow workers at the office. Or friends at the gym. The mere anticipation of their scrutiny arrests all growth before it can even germinate. "Why have you changed your way of life? Was everything you did until now wrong? Why do you feel a need to be different?" The most tyrannical regime could never be as oppressive.

The secret is, they may never even make a comment. They probably don't even care. So where do all those intimidating questions come from?

They come from your own little tyrant inside.

When we see the state of the world today

"When we see the state of the world today, of course we tell
ourselves the worst may yet happen: atomic war, epidemics,
natural catastrophes and so on, capable of bringing about the
disappearance of humankind. And so, voices are heard announcing
that the afflictions described in the book of Revelation are set
to rain down on earth. It is true that Revelations predicts the
end of the world; it is written. But actually events are never
predetermined. They can take quite a different course, depending
on the behaviour of humanity. Nothing is predetermined; there is
no irrevocable destiny, either for the individual or for the
world as a whole.
God is not a tyrant decreeing cataclysms that no one can do
anything about. He created humans with free will; they determine
their own future. If they live without awareness and lead a
dissolute life, they unleash chaotic currents, and then, of
course, the laws of nature, which are the laws of justice, bring
them to catastrophic ends; it can only be so. But if they decide
to be wiser, if they radiate a harmonious energy and no longer
disturb the balance of nature, many misfortunes can be avoided."

God’s wisdom, love and beauty are limitless.

"God’s wisdom, love and beauty are limitless. The higher we rise
on the ladder of evolution, the more we are able to intuit subtle
realities. And yet, even if we moved one step closer to God every
day, we would never succeed entirely in fathoming his mystery.
The only sight of the supreme Being we are granted is, as it
were, of his feet! But we can know his names – this science is
described in detail by the Cabbalah and, in itself, enlightens us
about a great deal.
No creature of any kind can know the infinite, eternal God, and
it is right that this is so. We will continue to seek him and
study him, and we will rejoice. There will always be something to
discover, because forms are infinite, and elements are always
appearing in the universe in new combinations. It would be
terrible if there were nothing left to learn, to understand; we
would just be waiting to die. But God is eternal life."

The Last War

Some people are waiting for a final, apocalyptic war. But the final war is not fought on battlefields, nor at sea, nor in the skies above. Neither is it a war between leaders or nations. The final war is fought in the heart of each human being, with the armies of his or her deeds in this world.

The Choice

Ultimately, Darkness will meet her end. Our choice lies only in the form of her demise:

If we meet nothing but success at every stage of our mission, Darkness will helplessly surrender, delivering to our hand all the sparks of G‑dliness that she has so jealously held.

When we fail, however, we have taken upon ourselves to wrestle Darkness face-to-face to her utter annihilation. She will not surrender, but no trace will be left of her. She herself will be transformed to light.

And there is no greater light than Darkness herself transformed to light.

Opponents

Opponents are evidence that you are moving forward. Their power comes from your fear of them.

Dark Knowing Light

That the spark of God within us will ponder God, what is the surprise?

But when the animal lifts its eyes to the heavens, when the dark side of Man lets in a little light, that is truly wondrous. How can darkness know light? How can earth know heaven?

Only with the power of He who is beyond both darkness and light, heaven and earth.

The Creator gave us a physical body

"The Creator gave us a physical body, and this body is a
reflection of the universe. This is why we must study it, respect
it, be in awe of it and learn to relate to the divine world by
means of it.
Initiates in the past, who possessed the true science of the
human being, discovered how the different organs and parts of the
human body corresponded to the heavenly constellations. Thus, the
head is linked to Aries, the neck to Taurus, the arms to Gemini,
the stomach to Cancer, the heart to Leo, the kidneys to Libra,
the genitals to Scorpio, the thighs to Sagittarius, the knees to
Capricorn, the calves to Aquarius and the feet to Pisces. You too
should practise imagining how your body is linked to the great
cosmic body. In view of your efforts and your goodwill, mother
nature, Isis, will say, ‘This being is mindful of me, loves and
respects me. I will show myself.’ And, gradually, the great
Goddess will reveal herself to you."

Release

Beginnings are hard. For good reason. If they were easy, we would prowl into each new venture like a snug fat cat.

When you begin pent up in an iron cage, a tiger comes out. A tiger that breaks through the door of its cage and pounces with a vengeance.

Bless those cages, those impossible brick walls, those rivers of fire that lie at the outset of each worthwhile journey. Without them we would be only as powerful as we appear.

War and Peace

From the time you begin to breathe, a war rages within.

From the time you attain citizenship of this world, you must struggle with your own frailties to stand upright, as a human being was meant to stand.

From the time you yearn to reach higher, you must engage the animal that comes dressed within this meat and bones, to carry it up with you. You must play its own game on its own turf, speak to it in its own language, meditate upon those matters that can inspire it, bear with it until you can bring it to the side of peace.

You must descend to a place of chaos and madness to redeem yourself from there.

And so this battle plays out not only in the spiritual arena of meditation and prayer, but also in the very human world of eating your meal, of raising a family, of worldly pursuits, infiltrating that world so as to conquer it, to rip away its veil and reveal the Godly sparks it contains, as Jacob dressed in the clothes of Esau, wrestling with his angel on the cold, sodden earth of a night to which he does not belong.

Yet at all times and in every situation you retain access to a point of perfect oneness within, a place where there is no opposition to fight, no choices that could be made, no existence at all, nothing other than “the Creator of all things to whom I am bound as one.”

It is not the battle that defines you, nor the role in which you must invest yourself, nor the opponent with whom you fight. You are none of these. You are that point of peace within.

And so, even your battle is in peace.

Re-piecing

At first all existed as a single whole in a single thought.

Then it fell below, shattering into tiny fragments and fragments of fragments.

Now Man picks up the pieces and says, “This seems to belong to this, and this relates to that,” until he reaches back to the whole as it was in primal thought.

It is not the cause and “why” of things that we find. Things are the way they are because that is how their Maker decided they should be. That is beyond the domain of intelligence.

The beauty of intelligence is that it finds the harmony and elegance of the whole as it was originally conceived.

The Storyteller

Abandon the notion that there is a world and there is a God. It is as fallacious as thinking there is a story and there is a storyteller.

There is only the storyteller, expressing himself in the story he tells. There is only the Unknowable, expressing Himself as a world.

Awake at Night

Just as we learn to walk by falling down, so we learn to be awake by groping in the dark.

When there is no support, no brightness to keep us on our toes, when we are all on our own, that is when we learn to be awake.

Truly awake—not because it is day, but because we are awake.
