A Little Smarter

If God were only a little smarter than me,
He wouldn't be my God.

T.Freeman

The Escape Hatch

All of us need a small hatch through which we can climb out of our little spaceship once in a while. So we can look at ourselves from the outside and see what is good and what needs repair and what could be put to better use. So we can look beyond ourselves and see how we compare to the vast universe. And then we can grow.
In fact, we all have just such a hatch. We don't use it much, however. Because we are so fearful of leaving our comfortable, well-defined selves and venturing into the vast Beyond.

Being Not That

Be simple. In whatever you do, in whatever form you take, in whatever you decide you are, retain memory that you are not that.

Mental Limits

Just as wisdom is not something you can touch with your hands, so Godliness is not something you can grasp with your mind.
The mind cannot experience God. G-d is not an idea. God is real.
God is better found through inspired deeds than by inspiring thoughts.

Snake Poison

Without its poison, the snake is no more and no less than any other of God's creatures. Whether it be the snake of hatred, of greed, of indifference, of jealousy, of pride, of any foul aspect of human character--they are only evil because of their poison, the poison of "I exist."
Because when "I exist," there is no room left for any other being in the world to exist.
Without the "I", even jealousy and pride can be glorious animals, driving a person to greater good.

Mind and Heart

See how beautifully mind and heart complement one another:
The heart is an extremist; unbridled, it will allow a single emotion to fill its entire space. But the mind finds balance and harmony, even between opposites.
The mind is cold and aloof. Reality, to the mind, is but a curiosity. But the heart lives in a real world, moved by even the slightest touch.
When the heart listens to the vision of the mind, it too learns to carry a counterpoint of voices, even the voices of other hearts. When the mind listens to the depths of the heart, then its vision can go out and change the world.
