The art of separation

"The art of separation is one of the most difficult there is, for
you have to know when the time is right. Any premature separation
is a wrench and causes tearing. Initiates have learned the art of
separation from nature itself. You cannot separate the nut from
its shell, yet nature knows how to do so: it lets the fruit
ripen, and the shell disintegrates of its own accord and falls
away. This separation symbolizes maturity. A mother carries a
child in her womb for several months, and it would be dangerous
to attempt to force it out prematurely. But when the time comes,
the fruit falls, and the link between the child and its mother
can be cut.
And what about our soul? It is trapped in our body, and to
become free it has to separate from the dense matter surrounding
it - but not before reaching maturity. So, that is a subject for
reflection, and autumn is the best period to meditate on true
liberation."
